Phalaenopsis gigantea care
“Phalaenopsis gigantea” such a hard name, I don`t know what the name-giver was thinking and if there is anything worse is that; this is its only name. So, let`s forget about it and let me introduce you to it, it somewhat looks like this (in case you are purchasing it for the first time and the gardener is trying to scam you):
Its
flowers somewhat look like this:
Phalaenopsis gigantea was found
in 1909 in the forests of Borneo, was about to extinct but after
few years it was also found in Asian countries like China, and India. It is
hard to find, and also pretty much expensive because of its required living
conditions. It is too much sensitive to hot and cold climates. Its leaves can
grow up to 2 feet; depending upon the size of the pot if you place it in the
ground or a large pot then your plant leaves will grow to 2 feet, not in the
case you are growing it in a small pot and expecting its leaves to grow 2 feet.
Its flowers are somewhat white and pink in colour, this plant flowers in late spring, the mature height of this plant are 1 foot. And like the other flower
plants, it doesn`t last for more than a year; in rare cases, they last for 100
years.
Phalaenopsis
gigantea is quite expensive as I mentioned earlier, it costs around $20 (around
Rs.3000/- Pkr). Now, if you have bought the plant and you want to know how to
take care of it, please read the following steps carefully:
1. Do not place in direct sunlight, it needs to be placed in a
bright place but with no direct sunlight.
2. Water every 1-2 weeks and make
sure that your water doesn`t stay in the pot, it likes moist soil.
3. Place it where humidity is
between 65-70%, good for areas near the sea.
4. They can neither exist below
15°C nor above 29°C, and 32°C is too hot for them.
5. Like other flowering plants, phalaenopsis
doesn`t require much fertilizer.
6. Although, its roots require
air for oxygen so, make sure to place your plant as such that its roots get
quality air.
Phalaenopsis surviving range is very small due to which it is hard to
grow. You will also face problems so, now I am going to tell you the problems
you might face and their solutions:
1. Wilting or wrinkling of leaves: It is because you are not giving the
required amount of water.
2. Yellowing Leaves: It can be because of over-watering or the plant is
bearing too much sunlight.
3. Wilting Flowers: It is actually the end of its blooming cycle and
preparing/ gathering energy to rebloom.
Thanks for Reading. Take Care😷
